Dear Santa…

11 09 2008

Dear Santa, all I want for Christmas is an Ocho CInco jersey!!!

Well it might happen, but it is going to cost…No not Santa, but Chad Ocho Cinco!

Chad Johnson-Don’t expect to see Chad Ocho Cinco wearing his new name on a jersey anytime soon. CNBC’s Darren Rovell reports on his blog that the former Mr. Johnson would be forced to buy out the stock of the 100,000 remaining C.Johnson jerseys before making the switch to “Ocho Cinco”. If Reebok asked Ocho Cinco to pay for the cost of making the unsold jerseys, the total could reach upwards of $4 million (or $50 million pesos).

Because Johnson changed his name so close to the start of the season, Reebok was left in a bind since they’d have to produce new jerseys and eat the old ones. That’s why the NFL has told Johnson he’d have to reimburse the company for the price of the jerseys. (Reported in Yahoo!sports)

No wonder the NFL stands for No Fun League! First no endzone celebrations and now this! It’s entertainment, and I REALLY want one! If Mr. Ocho Cinco does go forward with the purchase of these jerseys, I hope he reads this because I want to be one of the first to receive an old and a new jersey! I’m a huge fan and trust me there are plenty more around my area too. Again, we traveled 4 hours to watch you play a preseason game and chant your name! Go for it 85, Reebok will make their money back and so will you!

Fantasy Week 1

10 09 2008

Go to fullsize imageWeek one has come and gone and another upsetting year is on the horizon for me and my unlikely dominating fantasy team. Last year Drew Brees got me -7 in a crucial matchup, and then Brian Westbrook doing the “team” thing downed it inside the 5 yard line to give his team the win which made me lose by 4!!! That was last year, the past is the past..Right? Well, I unfortunately lost by a whopping 32 this week thanks to efforts of 44 fn points by Michael Turner!?! That’s right LT’s previous backup! It’s the Falcons and are you serious, he’s going to blow me out like this. Week one is over, the start of my redemption season is looking bad! I mean how does S. Jackson and J. Addai but up a combined 11 pts? Oh right, because the Rams blow and the Colts just looked awful and rusty! Hopes for week 2 could turn things around, but my opponent has Andre Johnson, A. Peterson, R. Wayne and W. Parker…Things aren’t looking good unless the football fantasy gods have received my prayers!!! Only time will tell!

VMAs

8 09 2008

Last night was the annual MTV VMA’s which I looked forward to every year, but this one was the 25th anniversary so I was expecting excitement…It was a toss up between Coltsvs. Bears or this, but saw the score and had to stick with this even if it will be showed another 23 odd times before next week…Overall, great show loved it form beginning to end. Absolutely loved the house band with Travis Barker who is very gifted and DJ AM. A little disturbed by the hosting of Russell Brand, funny at some moments(real funny in Forgetting Sarah Marshall), but definitely couldn’t get off the Jonas Brothers case about their promise rings. One jokes okay, 2 he was pushing it, but he never let it go…I’m glad Jordin Sparks stood up and said what she did (“I just wanna say, it’s not bad to wear a promise ring because not every guy and a girl wants to be a slut, OK?” ). Anyways lets get off the Brand topic and look over all the winners…Britney Spears had an amazing evening winning 3 moon-men thanks to Pieces of Me,and she looked absolutely stunning in her dress. Rihanna performed twice last night, once withTI and another by herself with the great song Disterbia. The Jonas Brothers, Kid Rock, Lil Wayne, Katie Perry, Pink, Paramore, and Kanye West all performed and everyone did a stellar job! Christina Aguilera also performed, but really all she did was some lip-syncing. She looked great while doing it, but we all seen it! My favorite performance was definitely Pink’s So What, which was remarkable and also didn’t help that she looked absolutely HOTT!!! Lil Wayne’s A Milli was great besides the sagging and crotch grabbing, but hey, it got the job done?!?

All in all this was a pretty calm VMA’s compared to moments before! Yes a few sexual comments were made, cussing here and there, and several one liners, but other than that…To be 25thAnniversary? Come on now, I really was hoping for mayhem like advertised!!! I guess we will just have to wait til next year and see how they can out shine and blow this years out of the water! Here’s a few suggestions, more performances like Pink’s and Lil Wayne’s, and less like lip-syncing Christina, oh yeah, and a better host!!!

Gone and Dunn IT!

8 09 2008

Image PreviewFriday night I attended the Brooks and Dunn and ZZ Top concert in Charlotte, NC at Verizon Wireless Amphitetre. I know it was several days ago, but been busy busy busy!!! Rodney Atkins kicked things off and he was very impressive..Hits like Cleaning My Gun and These are my People were sung throuhgout the fans and was very enjoyable. You could definetly tell the BnD fans from the ZZ ones, but it was all good. BnD preformed hit after hit and even the rains from the storm couldn’t wash them away. Everyone wanted more! I heard they always put on a great show, so I was glad to see for myself that they did an amazing job form beginning to end. I also had no idea they had that many hits and that I knew so many, but I found myself singing along with the best of them! ZZ Top rounded up the evening with a great perfomance and we all seemed to enjoy it. Not a huge fan, but found myself enjoying this one and likeing a vast majority of their tunes. All in all if you didn’t attend due to the storm and or likes of music…you missed a great one. I will definetly be up for attending another BnD concert in years to come.

A-Replay for A-Rod

4 09 2008

New York Yankees' Alex Rodriguez rounds the bases after hitting a ninth-inning home run off Tampa Bay Rays' Troy Percival during a baseball game Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, in St. Petersburg, Fla. Umpires reviewed the play and upheld the original call. Alex Rodriguez made major league history last night…And I promise it won’t be the last time we put these two together in the same sentence!

Last night the Tampa Bay Rays hosted the New York Yankees for game 2 of a 3 game series. It was the top of the 9th, 6-3 and A-Rod stepped up to the plate with one on and 2 down. A-Rod hit a bomb, and I mean it was a shot! He stayed at home and watched not to pose or showboat, but mainly to see if it was staying fair or foul. After it hit the catwalk, A-Rod looked for the signal and he got it…HOMERUN! But then the Rays catcher (Dioner Navarro) exploded out of his catchers position in discuss over the call, so you knew it was about to be history!

Watching the game at home, I thought it was a no brainer, but Navarro had a different opinion. The umpires went to instant review and history was being made. It took a quick 2 minutes and 15 seconds for the umpires to make the decision and it stood…HR number 31 on the season for Alex Rodriguez.

Some said that the instant replay would slow down the game, and it is already slow enough, but forget slowing down, it had me sitting on the edge of the bed in anticipation wanting it to be a homerun. I was anxious and excited to see the ruling and I didn’t want to change the channel because I didn’t want to miss a thing. It was the fastest 2 mins I think I have ever witnessed.

The only thing that bothered me one the whole situation was the commentary, because the view they kept showing to the television audience was of a side angel that made it look like the ball was foul the whole way. They didn’t show an angle straight down the line(but maybe there aren’t camera angles that way), but then they just kept talking about it being foul and blah blah blah. Anyone who plays let alone watches baseball knows that balls when hit can end up hooking. This ball obviously was hit extremely well and high and had some hook on it as it carried over the foul pole and hit the cat walk in foul play, but that didn’t matter one bit, it was in a fair ball the whole way til it hit and the ruling stood!

“I’m the first player. Next time I’m going stealth and go under the radar screen,” Rodriguez said. “It’s very fitting I’m involved. I was just glad we got the right call.” “I had the best view because I was at home plate. I saw what Brian saw, and for sure I knew this was going to get replayed,” Rodriguez said of his 549th career homer that moved him ahead of Mike Schmidt for sole possession of 12th place on the all-time list. “I saw the way Navarro jumped and then Maddon jumped out of the dugout and I said, ‘Here we go.”’

Umpire crew chief Charlie Reliford said Maddonasked plate umpire Greg Gibson to discuss the call with Runge.

“We all believed it was a home run, but since the technology is in place we made the decision to use the technology and go look at the replays,” Reliford told a pool reporter, adding that the umpires watched the video several times.

“If there had been no argument, obviously we wouldn’t have because all four of us believed the call was correct on the field,” Reliford said. “Because he disputed it, and it was very close, and now the technology is in place, we used it.”

“Technically, it’s up to the crew chief. But when the ship sinks, everyone drowns. We operate as a crew, we do everything as a crew, and we make decisions as a crew,” Reliford said. “If it comes down to a split decision, then the crew chief is going to have to decide which decision is most likely correct.”

All in all, I’m glad they put instant replay into baseball, and it actually didn’t talk that long. Great decision on the homerun dispute, good call on instant replay, and good call all the way around. I’m just glad I was watching the game to witness history!
