Disliked Your Name?

30 08 2008

Image PreviewNot saying he dislikes it, but Chad Johnson from the Cincinnati Bengals prefers to be called “Ocho Cinco!” Heck, I prefer calling him Ocho Cinco! I love No. 85, he’s gifted and a real entertainer. I like his stunts he preforms, and I truly hate that the end zone celebrations had to go:( Thank you very much NFL!!! Anyways some people hate this type of attitude, but this is my opinion, my blog…I love it! Chad Johnson and Terrell Owens are 2 of my favorite athletes! They perform on and off the field and are real crowd pleasers. I could care less of what anyone else thinks! Heck, I even drove 5 hours to watch Johnson play a preseason game (wk.3) in 2007 against the Vick-less Falcons, because I’m such a huge fan!

Anyways, back on topic…The Cincinnati Bengals receiver has legally changed his name to Chad Javon Ocho Cinco in Broward County, Fla., a switch that became official this week, according to several media reports. Johnson, who lives in Miami, didn’t return a message left on his cell phone Friday night.

“It’s something I don’t think anyone has ever done before,” he told the team’s Web site. “Have I ever had a reason for why I do what I do? I’m having fun.”

Two years ago, Johnson gave himself the moniker—a reference in Spanish to his No. 85—and put it on the back of his uniform before a game( I watched that game). Quarterback Carson Palmer, ripped it off before the kickoff. After the season, coach Marvin Lewis—who dislikes Johnson’s attention-getting stunts—referred to the receiver as “Ocho Psycho.”

Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said the Bengals had no comment on the matter.

Johnson has been a concern for the Bengals this season. He unsuccessfully lobbied for a trade in the off season, threatening to sit out if he didn’t get his way. When the Bengals refused, he relented and showed up for minicamp, but complained that his right ankle was bothering him.

He had bone spurs removed from the ankle and was limited at the start of training camp. In the second preseason game, he landed awkwardly and temporarily dislocated his left shoulder. Johnson is wearing a harness and expects to play in the season opener against Baltimore.

And the Award goes to…

28 08 2008

And the award goes to…Dennis Rodman!?! That’s right I said it…Well, I’m quoting one of the best coaches of all time! It all took place during a speech at the University of North Dakota. Of all that was said and talked about, the only thing that I could possibly be dumbfounded by was his choice of greatest athlete that he ever coached! “[Rodman] could probably play a 48-minute game and play the 48th minute stronger than the first minute of the game. He was that terrific of an athlete!”

Shocked at first, but Phil made a huge point…ATHLETE? hmmmm

Not best at the sport, not fastest, not best shooter, but ATHLETE! Best all around, someone who gives it their all…day in and day out. Team player, hard-worker, leaves it all out on the court.

Then yes, I fully agree with Phil Jackson! That’s Rodman to me! Weird off the court (extremely), and sometimes on, never seized to amaze and a huge crowd entertainer, but I remember he gave it all every game. Not just with the Bulls and his rings, but with the Spurs, Pistons, and Lakers as well. My brother was a huge Rodman fan, and when we played pick-up, he was always hollering “Board Rodman” and throwing bows…But it got the job done. Never new what the next day was in store for this “special” character, but Dennis Rodman got the job done! Like him or hate him, he’s got the verbal award from the original “Dr. Phil”, GREATEST ATHLETE (Coached by Phil)!!!

Is there Iron in Beef?

26 08 2008

Go to fullsize imageRobert Downey Jr. from Iron Man seems to have a few harsh words towards the Dark Side!!! In a recent interview, Downey dissed the movie The Dark Knight, and how the movie was scripted and directed…

“My whole thing is that I saw ‘The Dark Knight’. I feel like I’m dumb because I feel like I don’t get how many things that are so smart. It’s like a Ferrari engine of storytelling and script writing and I’m like, ‘That’s not my idea of what I want to see in a movie.’ I loved ‘The Prestige’ but didn’t understand ‘The Dark Knight’. Didn’t get it, still can’t tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and in the end they need him to be a bad guy. I’m like, ‘I get it. This is so high brow and so [expletive] smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.’ You know what? [Expletive] DC comics. That’s all I have to say and that’s where I’m really coming from.”

You know things are bad when superheroes are getting involved! I think someones mad just because they aren’t number one in the box office this year, but I could be wrong…You be the judge!

Strangers

22 08 2008

poster

I have been waiting and waiting to see this movie…Heard mixed reactions from friends and others, so again, I have to judge this one for myself. No one told me this movie was based on real events, so as soon as I read that at the movies beginning I was already on the edge because usually horror movies can’t happen…But not this time! What can be scarier than something that can happen to you at any given point…It happened to me one night in college and I was freaked out for hours, so TRUST ME..it can happen!!!

Kristen (Liv Tyler) and James (Scott Speedman) are the couple who play the main roles as just a regular couple like anyone else and they just  happen to arrive at a vacation house in the woods after attending a friends wedding. It’s early in the morning and they both have had a few disagreements about themselves and their relationship and aren’t in the best of moods. The movie seems to be starting off extremely slow, but things are soon about to pick up. Still trying to work and manage things out, their conversation comes to hault due to a loud abrupt knock on the door. They open it to find a young woman who seems to appear to be lost but yet they cannot see her face due to the shadows and of course the light not being able to come on (good timing). James assumes she is lost and ends up sending her away, but that isn’t the last they will see of her. After this, James decides he needs some air and some cigarettes at an awkward time in the middle of no where and leaves Kristen home alone and says he’ll be right back. She thinks shes home alone, but we all can see and know that shes being watched by the “Strangers.” Things began to happen and terror begins to fill inside of Kristen and getting in touch with James and getting safe is all on her mind. James arrives back home to find a terrified Kristen and they are left alone in the woods to overcome this reality nightmare! The rest is up to you to watch and enjoy, but the worst part of the whole movie is when asked by Kristen “why they are doing this?” and the reply from the Strangers is that “because they were home!” BONE CHILLING!!! No special effects, no imaginary killers or zombies, just straight up crazy people that could really happen. Just don’t be alone when you watch this one!!!

Yes Kenny Can!!!

Kenny Chesney Poets & Pirates Tour was absolutely amazing last night in Charlotte, NC at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre. Packed house from around the 6 o’clock hour til midnight, and at that time it was still hard for people wanting to leave. The tunes from cars played for hours with hits after hits all through out the day of tailgating, all preparing for Mr. Chesney and no one had an idea of what was in store for us. I have been to dozens of concerts this summer and all of Kenny’s previous ones in the years before, and this by far was the top one I have ever experienced. When I grow up, I want to be just like Kenny Chesney :) His fans are the best, he is very into his fans and gives them exactly what they want to hear and seems to never disappoint. No wonder this man has won so many awards and especially Male Performer of the Year several times!!! Leann Rimes opened for Kenny and she was one of the best opening acts I have heard this summer. I am not a huge fan of hers, but there sure were a lot of them there last night. After Leann performed there was the usual intermission and anticipation of what was going to come…Once the curtain rose and the pirate ship came into focus and “Mr. Bones” introduced Kenny Chesney it was screeming and cheering and sing-alonging the rest of the night. He played new ones, he played old ones( She thinks my tractor’s sexy), he even played other performers (Dave Matthews-Where are You Going; which was my favorite) and everyone enjoyed each and every song. I have said before in previous post that I am looking forward to see these performers again next year, but this is definitely on my top list to attend again. I have several friends going to the one in Raleigh tonight and have already told them they are in for a treat. Again, Kenny Chesney IS the top Male Performer and you MUSTsee him at least once…He is never disappointing!!!

Step-Brothers

16 08 2008

Being a huge Will Ferrell fan and loving almost all his movies, I have been looking forward to this one ever since I first saw the trailer early February…Adam McKay directed this one which is a plus because he also co-wrote and directed Anchorman and Talledega Nights. Joined with Ferrell and McKay is loveable John C. Reilly who I loved in Talledega Nights, but really got my attention in his lead role in Walk Hard. The plot is about as simple as they come: Brennan Huff (Ferrell) and Dale Doback (Reilly) are 40-yr old men who act their shoe size and do a great job at it. They happen to live at home still with their single parents who by darn luck it seems to find one another and end up marrying. At first they have rules after rules and have a rivalry against one another that is hilarious but seems like they will never accept one another. That all changes after they both have a shared love for ninjas, Cops, porno mags, and also the despise of Brennan’s younger brother! Without ruining the rest of the movie, I will have to recommend this one for all to see. Crude humor, some nudity, but tons of laughs and one-liners. This one is definitely going on my list as a top comedy and with this duo tearing it up constantly, I can’t wait to see what else they have in the pot for the years to come.

Cub Nation

16 08 2008

Go to fullsize imageJust got back in town from watching the Cubbies sweep the Braves this week in a 3-game series. I’m not a Cub fan at all, but my closest friends are die hard ones and they bleed blue and white and you hear it from them every year that this is the year…Well, I reckon we will just have to wait and see. Being the loyal friend that I am, I decided to jump onto the Cub Bandwagon these past few days and cheer with my friends and rag the Braves as much as possible (and that we did)! Jeff Francouer was a great sport of how much trash we talked to him and there were times where I felt bad when other fans said some crude things in his direction. Yes, bush league you may say, but with thought and taste came from our group. One of my friends who went, was a Braves fan and along with the players, he got ragged with them too. The Cubs spanked the Braves 2 out of 3 this week and there wasn’t much the other Braves fans could say. It honestly felt like we were at Wrigley Field without the Ivory due to the fans, and cheering and songs and even the “take me out to the ballgame chant!” The third game was a little closer, but same out come…Cubs Win, Cubs Win! Go to fullsize image

This is the 2nd time this year that I have went and watched the Cubs play and it is absolutely amazing of how many fans there are and it is like that everywhere with these people. Jerseys, signs, face paint, tattoos, etc. the list goes on and on. I went to the Nationals Park in DC and watched, and I was shocked by the cheering section, including right field where I sat, because of Fukudome. I have to admit that the Chicago fan base is by far to my recollection one of the best I have ever seen and I think that with the fans support the Cubbies have a huge chance…and their team isn’t that bad either!
